The Long Walk Home

Background
The Haig Housing Trust is the UK's main housing charity for war veterans. Across the UK, Haig has over 1500 properties, providing general needs housing as well as specially adapted homes for severely wounded and disabled service and ex-service personnel.

In 2018, Haig Housing have organised a national event to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War: The Long Walk Home. The event will consist of a pilgrimage by foot of 100 Veterans and Serving Personnel from across the UK who will walk 100 miles from the Menin Gate in Ypres to the Cenotaph in Whitehall, timed to arrive for the National Service of Remembrance on Sunday 11th November 2018. Planned as a mark of respect to those who died in the Great War, it will also raise funds for the charity.

Brief
The brief was to work with Haig Housing to create a visual identity to celebrate this historic event across a range of applications.

Solution
We designed a strong visual marque to clearly communicate the centenary message. This is driven by a typographic approach which powerfully and unambiguously communicates the story of brave service and ex-service personnel. We developed this into a simple and flexible identity system, which is designed to be used across a wide range of media, marketing and merchandise.
